Treehouse in the forest of Costa Rica

Let's explore the world

one museum, and one plate at a time

Dear Reader,

This issue is a little late. I’ve been busy planning two family spring breaks, a trip to Portugal, and a trip to Chicago. I also created a New Orleans curated list for a client. I am so excited!

I also just finished reading the VML Trend Report for 2025. It was a long but interesting read. The report highlights trends in various industries—tech, wellness, entertainment, and, of course, my favorite, travel. According to the report—which I should have read last fall—2025 will be a paradoxical year.

The report contains many examples of paradox, such as the desire for community but also for solitude. Are any of you feeling this way?

Here is a direct quote:

“Travelers are seeking out restorative solitude, as a route to personal growth and the foundation for cherishing connection with others.”

What do I think this means?

In order to build a connection with others, you must first fill your cup.

As more people crave a true shut-off, I have picked some properties that I think fit the bill.

If you are thinking about booking any of these, please get in touch with me first. As a travel advisor, I can offer partner perks and additional value. (See my new testimonial below.) I also have access to deals all the time. I would love to work with you.

Solitude Travel

Tropical Solitude

The Matachica

This is the property that inspired this post. I really wanted to book a client at this property. She wanted an eco-friendly luxury property with a side of nature but didn’t want to feel trapped at the resort. It was perfect. This 30-bungalow resort sits on Ambergris Caye, an island off of Belize, offering front-row ocean seats and fantastic snorkeling. Bonus: Adults-only

It has a sister property deep in the forest if beaches aren’t your jam.

Rio Perdido

Have you ever wanted to live in a tree house? Escape to this hidden resort in the Costa Rican forest. Want to sit in thermal springs? Go on a guided hike? Zip line through the forest? Once you are there, you are completely taken care of.

Cabin in the Woods Solitude

The Leeway

This newly re-opened property sits in New York’s Catskills. It is a small property with a few options for hotel rooms, studios, and duplexes. Tucked into the woods, you can feel far away while you read in a hammock or stare into the trees. For Severance fans, you are close to The Phoenicia, where several scenes were shot.

Bonus provenance: It was once owned by Kate Pierson of the B-52s.

Postcard Cabins

Located all over the United States, these little escape pods are perfect for those of you who want a retreat but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg.

Let's get you that discount going on now.

Travel Tips from a Traveler

Travel Changes in 2025

This post will constantly change over this year.

  • EU: Before ETIAS, there is EES
  • USA: Making it harder for the LGBTQIA+ community to travel.
  • Mexico: Going to enforce their customs forms for US travelers and visas for those traveling by land.

THIS IS YOUR REMINDER TO RENEW YOUR PASSPORT!

Tip: How I Travel Like I Have A Lot of Money (When I Don't)

If you truly want deals when you travel, you need to find ways to make your money work harder for you.

Bonus: A chart of how many days out you should book your flight with points.

A NEW TESTIMONIAL

I would love to help you plan your next trip!
