Out of Office Curated: Issue 3--Travellust

Sun peeking through autumn colored trees

OUT OF OFFICE CURATED

Let's explore the world

one museum, and one plate at a time

Dear Reader,

Fall is my favorite time to travel. As a former Minnesotan living in Los Angeles, I miss the autumn leaves, so I travel north in September and October to see nature in full display.

Here are some scenes from Cabane à Sucre Au Pied de Cochon (Sugar Shack) earlier this month.

Located in a small town outside Montreal, this sister location in the woods is a maple syrup farm and cidery with two restaurants on its property. Once I publish my Montreal Guide, this will be a recommended day trip.

As a travel advisor, I get previews and debriefs of many properties worldwide. This is causing me severe travellust, so I decided to use this issue to feature some hotels and experiences that have piqued my interest. I see new things that I had no idea existed every week.

Confession time: I have never been to Paris

I know, I know. All of my friends gasp when I say this. Paris is well-loved by friends and is on many others’ bucket lists. I need to battle my preconceived notions of Paris, mainly that it is overcrowded with tourists. (See my tourist tip below.) I need a Parisian friend who can show me the local places. (Is there a Laura Tours in Paris?) If I were to go, this design hotel with views of the Eiffel Tower would be at the top of my list.

SO/ Paris (I can get you partner perks)

I also want to sit in their restaurant and take in the views of the Seine.

Writer's Retreat Lust

Sometimes, I want to escape into the woods and write. A friend turned me on to Getaway--since rebranded to Postcard Cabins, and I have wanted to go ever since. These cabins are located across the United States, so I recommend this if you are looking for some alone time in the quiet. I want these views while I write my city guides.

What I want to do next: Palm Springs Modernism Week

Modernism Week in Palm Springs has been on my bucket list for a long time. It is a week of events with opportunities to tour Mid-Century Modern Homes and attend architecture talks, concerts, and exhibits. It is an art nerd’s dream. ✋

This annual festival has two parts: a week in February and a mini-version in October. (There are still tickets available for the October session.)

This is where I would love to stay.

Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows (I can get you partner perks)

On my bucket list: Finland

I just watched a destination debrief featuring the Nordic countries. In my first issue of Out of Office Curated, I posted about nature being a travel trend. Perhaps you are feeling the Aurora Borealis FOMO from the stunning pictures hitting your feeds last week. Here are some of mine from Ottawa.

If that inspired you at all, I offer you Finland.

Finland has been looming in the background as a bucket list destination for a while. My great-grandmother, whom I loved dearly, was from a small town near the western coast.

I would use Helsinki as a base for my explorations in Finland. It is a city full of art and design mixed with nature. Finland is constantly voted the happiest country in the world.

This is where I would stay.

Hotel St. George (I can get you partner perks)

Also, I was today years old when I learned that Bono & The Edge from U2 own a hotel in Dublin. (I can get you partner perks)

If any of this causes wanderlust, don't hesitate to contact me.

NEWS!

I am working on a website where I can put expanded information and itineraries. It will be live in time for the next issue.

In my last issue, I featured the DTLA Proper as the hotel you should book in my Bonus category of travelers. The DTLA Proper isn’t the only Proper Hotel. The other LA FORA advisors swoon over the Santa Monica Property. There is also Palm Springs, Austin, Montauk, and more.
