Out of Office Curated: Issue 4--The MSP Issue

OUT OF OFFICE CURATED

Let's explore the world

one museum, and one plate at a time.

Reader,

Welcome to the fourth issue of Out of Office Curated! I am happy you are here. If you are a new subscriber, this newsletter is a love letter to all things travel—deals, travel tips, and the occasional city guide.

My first city guide featured the city I live in; for my second city guide, I wanted to feature the town where I spent most of my formative years: Minneapolis.

Minneapolis

Although I ultimately left Minneapolis, I still feel the positive impact of living there. It is in Minnesota’s DNA to help, donate, give, and volunteer. It's artsy, alternative, and aware.

My Hot Take: Minneapolis is flying too far under the radar, especially when it comes to food. Between the James Beard-awarded chefs, the opening of Indigenous restaurants, and some of the best Cambodian, Hmong, and Ethiopian food in the country, there are a lot of powerhouses of cooking here. Also, this is where the Juicy Lucy was invented.

Here are some Minneapolis highlights that I thought I would share:

  • MSP has been voted the best airport by multiple travel publications.
  • Minneapolis is the happiest city in the United States.
  • Minneapolis has its own sound. (That sound is purple; look at the cover photo of this newsletter for a hint.)
  • Minnesota is consistently in the top three charitable states in the county.
  • There is a lot of nature within the city limits.

If you want to visit Minneapolis, I am a great person to talk to. Connect with me before Travel Tuesday, December 3, to get some deals.

A Day in Minneapolis Itinerary

This is the itinerary I would give to my clients looking to experience art and food as a Bonus traveler. (If you aren’t sure what that means, click here. )

Theme: Bonus

The best time to use this itinerary: Spring/Summer.

Stop 1: Spyhouse Coffee

Wake up at the Emery, Autograph Collection and grab a cup of coffee from Spyhouse.

Stop 2: Gold Medal Park

Walk to Gold Medal Park to experience nature and public art. Peek into the Mill City Museum, which has an observation deck with the best views of the city.

Stop 3: Mara

Lunch at Mara at the Four Seasons to experience food from Chef Gavin Kaysen. Chef Kaysen studied under the best chefs in the country and has started a mini-empire in Minneapolis. (Spoon & Stable, Demi, Mara, & Bellecour Bakery.)

Stop 4: Walker Art Center

See art, play mini-golf, and roam the sculpture garden at the Walker Art Center.

Stop 5: Owamni

Dinner at Owamni with a view of the Mississippi. This restaurant by Sean Sherman, The Sioux Chef, highlights the diet of Minnesota's first peoples.

I would also add First Avenue & 7th Street Entry to any trip to Minneapolis.

The Three Bs (Budget, Bonus, Bougie)

This section will feature my Bonus picks for Minneapolis.

See how I can help you curate your trip to Minneapolis. Contact me for deals, hotels, and itineraries.

The Minnesota Guide with my Budget and Bougie picks will be available in time for the next issue.

Bonus

1) Emery, Autograph Collection

2) Owamni 3) Walker Art Center

4) Back Bar at Yong Joni
